2.83 km long. Speeds of up to 150 km/h. And it’s a short drive from Dubai.

If you live in the Gulf and want a real adrenaline rush without a long flight, Jais Flight in Ras Al Khaimah should be at the top of your list. It’s the world’s longest zipline, and winter season is the perfect time to do it.

What is Jais Flight?

Jais Flight is a zipline on Jebel Jais, the highest mountain in the UAE. You’re clipped into a harness and fly down a cable lying face-down, like Superman, over rocky peaks and deep valleys.

  • Length: 2.83 km.
  • Speed: up to 150 km/h.
  • Starting height: 1,680 m above sea level.
  • Ride time: about 3 minutes.

It holds the Guinness World Record as the longest zipline in the world.

What it feels like

The start platform hangs off the side of the mountain. When the gate opens, you drop forward and pick up speed fast. The wind is loud, the mountains rush past, and the ground is a very long way down.

After the first few seconds, most people stop screaming and start enjoying the view. Then you land at a platform partway down the mountain, where a shorter line brings you to the finish.

When to go

Jebel Jais is open all year, but October to April is the best time. The mountain is much cooler than the coast, often by around 10°C, so it’s comfortable even in the middle of the day.

  • Winter hours (October to April): 9:30 am to 4 pm.
  • Summer (May to September): limited time slots, early and late.

Weekends get busy, so book ahead if you’re going on a Friday or Saturday.

The rules

  • Weight: between 40 and 120 kg.
  • Height: at least 130 cm.
  • Under 18s: need parental consent and a signed waiver.
  • Shoes: closed and sturdy. No flip-flops or heels.
  • ID: bring an original photo ID.

How much does it cost?

Tickets start from around AED 325 per person. A camera to film your flight costs extra. Prices can change, so check the official site before you go.

How to get there

Jebel Jais is about an hour’s drive from Ras Al Khaimah city and around 2 hours from Dubai. The mountain road is one of the most scenic drives in the country, with switchbacks and viewpoints all the way up. From Doha, fly to Dubai or Ras Al Khaimah and drive.

Make it a full mountain day

  • Jais Sky Tour: a series of shorter ziplines across the mountain.
  • Jais Sledder: a mountain roller coaster you control yourself.
  • Viewing deck: stop at the top for photos and coffee.
  • Hiking trails: marked routes for all levels.
  • Camping: cooler nights make it a favourite winter camping spot.

Tips

  • Bring a jacket. The top can be surprisingly cold in winter.
  • Empty your pockets before you ride.
  • Go early for clearer views and shorter waits.
  • Check the weather. Strong winds can pause rides.
